Silene coronaria (L.)
Beautiful, purple-flowered, medicinal and wild plant that is good as a cut flower.
The corn cockle is considered a grateful beauty for naturalistic gardens. Although the plant parts are poisonous, they can be wonderfully used as cut flowers. In former times, the corn cockle, which is also called corn rose, field cockle or corn carnation, could be found a lot as field flora in winter cereals. Due to modern seed cleaning and the use of herbicides, the plants have been strongly displaced and are now on the "Red List" of highly endangered species. They thrive best in sunny locations with nutrient-rich soil.
