Salvia pratensis
Attractive wild plant that thrives as a pioneer on raw soils.
Meadow sage is a native perennial plant that grows up to 60 cm tall and thrives particularly well in calcareous, nutrient-poor, sunny locations. Thanks to its long roots, which can reach well over a metre, the plant's water supply is optimally adapted to dry locations. With its typical purple lip flowers, the plant attracts many bees, bumblebees and butterflies. Both the leaves and flowers of meadow sage are edible and can be used to enrich colourful wild herb salads.
