Phaseolus vulgaris var. nanus

Severely threatened, historical variety with long, green pods (Red List).

The regional variety was once very important in the Baden-Württemberg region and is on the Red List of endangered native crops in Germany. Since the seeds of the variety are no longer available anywhere, we have now propagated and selected them for several years and are happy to spread the variety again so that it can be kept alive in as many gardens as possible. The tasty, tender, green pods are significantly longer than other classic varieties such as “Saxa” and are oval in cross section. The mature kernels are white. Photos of the variety from 1936 can be found in the archives of the library of the Leibniz Institute for Vegetable and Ornamental Plant Production.
