Early maturing, Italian variety with initially green, later dark/purple seeds.
The upright plants form thick pods, each containing about 7 seeds. Thick beans are believed to have originated in the southeastern Mediterranean region and have been cultivated for a very long time. The larger beans are also called broad beans and were not displaced by garden beans until the 18th century.
