Phaseolus vulgaris L. ssp. vulgaris var. vulgaris
Variety found from the island of Reichenau with a strong bean flavor and speckled seeds.
The variety has been kept by a family on Lake Constance for more than 100 years and can be used as grain beans or young as pods. The light and dark brown speckles of the oval-spherical kernels remain when cooked. The plants grow a good 2 m high, have slightly purple flowers and many 20 cm long, slightly curved pods. The variety used to be grown in Meersburg and was found as part of the "Sortendetektive" campaign by the Genbänkle association.
