Pisum sativum convar. axiphium L.

Crispy, stringless rarity with sweet pods (Ark of Taste).

This variety has long been cultivated in Koblenz-Kesselheim and on the island of Niederwerth, although its cultivation is currently in decline and it is now on the Red List of Endangered Plants. The approximately 8 cm long pods with their yellow grains are particularly suitable for freezing because they retain their consistency and color when blanched. It also scores with its particularly distinctive pea flavor. Since 2013, the variety has also been one of the Ark passengers at Slow Food. Since the variety climbs, it should be supported somewhat (e.g. by branches or a small trellis)).
