Capsicum annuum

Famous Spanish variety with fruits of varying degrees of heat.

The well-known variety from Galicia (surroundings of Padrón) forms bushy plants, approx. 60-70 cm high, with many red ripening fruits. These are known for the fact that the capsaicin content varies greatly and some are very mild while others taste very hot (degree of heat 0-5). The name of the variety also refers to a typical regional dish prepared from it, which has spread throughout Spain. With us, the "fried peppers" are known as green tapas peppers. The approx. 15 - 20 g fruits are harvested when green when they are approx. 8 cm long. In addition to the greenhouse, the plants also thrive well outdoors and in pots. Briefly fried with a little olive oil and coarse sea salt, the fruits can be served as a snack or starter, for example.
